This is a simple tool, and does nothing more than punch an elongated nail slot in pieces of vinyl siding. I found it most useful for expanding existing slots when the slot spacing didn't align with the wall studs. I never tried to punch a slot in anything but vinyl, but I don't think that it would work very well on metal, regardless of how light the gauge. I saved about $8.00 by buying this from Amazon as opposed to getting it from my local building supply company.
